The risks you face
What actually goes wrong in hospitality
Kitchen fires
Commercial kitchens are one of the biggest fire risks insurers see. Duct cleaning and fryer conditions are strictly enforced after a claim.
Closure and lost income
A fire, flood or even a drainage problem can close you in peak season. Business interruption has to reflect your busiest months, not the average.
Food poisoning and allergens
An allergen mistake can lead to a serious injury claim and reputational damage.
Seasonal staff
Casual and seasonal workers are covered under employers' liability, and wage rolls need to be declared correctly.
Stock and cellar
Loss of stock through fridge breakdown or power cuts needs deterioration of stock cover.
Licensing and entertainment
Live music, late licences and door staff change the liability risk.
How we help
Cover that matches your busy season
Most hospitality businesses on the coast earn a large share of their income between Easter and September. We set business interruption cover and stock limits so a summer fire does not leave you short. We explain the fryer, duct and security conditions that could otherwise catch you out.
Help when things go wrong
When a kitchen fire or flood closes you, the first days are critical. Our claims team gets a loss adjuster to you quickly and helps agree interim payments so you can pay staff and suppliers.
Cover we typically arrange
Every policy has limits, excesses and exclusions. We explain the important ones in plain English before you buy.

Business interruption estimator
If a fire or flood closed you for a year, would your cover replace the profit you lose? Aviva reports that business interruption policies are underinsured by an average of 52%.
Wages, rent, loan repayments and other bills you would still pay while closed stay in. Leave them out of this figure.
Illustrative sum insured
–
- Gross profit (insurance basis) this year
- –
- Projected with growth
- –
Most people underestimate how long recovery takes. Planning, rebuilding and winning back customers after a serious fire often takes over 18 months.
This is an illustration, not advice. Insurers define gross profit differently and policy wordings vary. A full calculation needs your accounts. We will do that with you at no cost before your renewal.
Case study
A harbour restaurant back open in nine weeks
A kitchen extraction fire closed a Folkestone harbour restaurant in July. Because the owner had kept their duct cleaning certificates and we had set the indemnity period to 18 months, the claim was accepted in full. We agreed an interim payment in week two that covered staff wages while the kitchen was rebuilt.

Questions
Hospitality insurance questions
Why do insurers ask about duct cleaning?
Grease in extraction ducts is a major cause of kitchen fires. Most policies require professional cleaning at set intervals, and claims can be reduced or declined if it hasn't been done.
Is loss of licence covered?
It can be added. It protects the value of your business if your premises licence is revoked or not renewed through no fault of your own.
Are my seasonal staff covered?
Yes, under employers' liability, as long as your wage roll is declared accurately.
