The risks you face

What actually goes wrong in haulage & logistics

01

Fleet claims history

Premiums depend heavily on claims. One bad year can push renewal costs up for three years.

02

Goods in transit and CMR

International loads are carried under the CMR convention, which caps carrier liability by weight. Clients may expect more.

03

Delays and stacking

Operation Brock, port queues and border checks keep vehicles and loads waiting on the roadside, which raises theft and damage risk.

04

Driver shortages

Using agency or younger drivers can restrict cover or raise the excess, unless it is agreed in advance.

05

Warehouse and stock

Warehousing brings liability for customers' goods stored with you, which a transit policy won't cover.

06

Vehicles off the road

A written-off tractor unit can take months to replace, and the loss of income can be worse than the vehicle damage.

How we help

Presenting your fleet properly

Insurers price fleets on data. We present your claims history with context, including what happened, what you changed and the telematics or camera evidence you now collect. Insurers then see a managed risk, not just a list of claims.

Support when vehicles are off the road

We arrange replacement vehicle and loss of use cover where it is available. Our claims team works with approved repairers and engineers so vehicles get back on the road quickly.

Cover we typically arrange

Every policy has limits, excesses and exclusions. We explain the important ones in plain English before you buy.

Business interruption estimator

If a fire or flood closed you for a year, would your cover replace the profit you lose? Aviva reports that business interruption policies are underinsured by an average of 52%.

Wages, rent, loan repayments and other bills you would still pay while closed stay in. Leave them out of this figure.

Illustrative sum insured

Gross profit (insurance basis) this year
Projected with growth

Most people underestimate how long recovery takes. Planning, rebuilding and winning back customers after a serious fire often takes over 18 months.

This is an illustration, not advice. Insurers define gross profit differently and policy wordings vary. A full calculation needs your accounts. We will do that with you at no cost before your renewal.

Case study

A 14-vehicle fleet renewal with context

A Dover haulier had three claims in 18 months and was facing a 40% renewal increase. We worked with them to document the dashcam system they had since fitted, their new driver induction and the fact that two claims were non-fault. With that context we secured terms from a specialist fleet insurer with a smaller increase and a lower excess.

Questions

Haulage & logistics insurance questions

What does CMR insurance cover?

Your legal liability as a carrier for loss of or damage to goods carried internationally by road under the CMR convention. It is limited by weight. Customers wanting full value need separate goods in transit or cargo cover.

Will telematics reduce my premium?

Often, especially when you can show how you use the data to manage drivers. It also helps defend disputed claims.

Can new or young drivers be added?

Usually, but insurers may apply higher excesses or conditions. Tell us before they drive, not after an accident.
